Treating Grey Hair at Home

Getting grey hair is a sign of maturity, and in many cultures it’s seen as a source of wisdom. However, many people do not like getting grey hairs because it shows their age. Ageing is a natural phase for everyone, and while we may not look forward to it, one of the earliest signs crop up in grey hair. Other than old age, grey hair can be caused by other factors as well, including:

  • Stress
  • Poor nutrition
  • Declining mental health (i.e., depression)

Appearance is important to many individuals, and so we often feel undue pressure to look young. Fortunately, there is an array of remedies that can banish grey hair, many of them natural:

1. Eating healthily
Many individuals do not believe that what they eat contributes to their hair health and growth. Aside from genetics, one of the leading causes of grey hair is, believe it or not, poor nutrition. Hair is a bodily organ that needs the right blend of nutrients to grow healthily and full. To prevent grey hair, it is important to eat diets that contain a lot of fruits and vegetables. Onions, in particular, are a food linked to keeping grey hair at bay (in addition to your date). Onions are loaded with antioxidants, which fight oxidative damage and restore the natural color of hair and skin. Other foods high in antioxidants include garlic, leeks, eggplant, dark berries, pumpkin, carrots, spinach, green tea, and seafood.

2. Hair dye
Hair dyes are a quicker way to get rid of grey hair. You can make a natural hair dye at home (i.e, henna), or buy one from a drugstore or hair stylist. Remember, many store bought hair products contain harmful chemicals that can actually damage the hair. However, natural hair dyes bought form a natural beauty store can be found with plenty of antioxidants and natural ingredients. You can also make a hair dye at home using ingredients like coconut oil and curry leaves.

3. Reduce stress
Gray hair is often rooted in mental health. For instance, chronic depression and stress are closely linked to premature aging, including grey hair. So do your part by staying young mentally and physically by take up hobbies and activities that stimulate you, inspire you, and make you happy.
