4 Easy Home Remedies For Nasal Congestion

One of the most common ailments of people of all ages is nasal congestion. This includes sinus pain, swollen nasal passages, watery eyes, mucus buildup, minor headache, and a hoarse voice. From children to older adults, the symptoms can be minor or severe, and cause varying degrees of discomfort. There may be a runny nose, or nasal discharge, but not with everyone. 1. Inhale steam

2. Saline spray

This can be done by using a neti pot to pour the mixture directly into one nostril, and allowing it to drain out of the other nostril. For full effectiveness, the process should be repeated with the opposite nostril. The saline mixture can be made using one teaspoon of iodized salt with two cups of distilled, warm water. The neti pot is designed to flush fluids and mucus out of the nasal passages, and is quite popular for doing irrigation. Another way to do this is to wash hands thoroughly, pour the saline into the palm, and inhale through one nostril at a time.

3. Eat Cayenne

Cayenne pepper is another home remedy that is effective in relieving nasal congestion. It contains capsaicin which is a highly effective natural decongestant. The fiery effect of the pepper induces a runny nose that helps rid the nasal passages of mucus and allergens in sinuses. To properly use the cayenne pepper, add one half teaspoon of pepper to one tablespoon of raw honey and eat it. Do this a few times each day until the desired result is obtained.

4. Sip garlic

Garlic is a long time and still popular home remedy for nasal congestion. With antiviral, anti fungal, and antibacterial properties, garlic is one of the best home remedies for relief of nasal congestion. Boil two or three cloves of garlic in one cup of water. Add a little turmeric for flavor, and drink at least twice daily until the congestion clears.
